Energy-Efficient Furnaces available in Calgary and Chestermere

Expert Mechanical can help you make an wise decision when installing or replacing a furnace. Today’s furnaces offer exceptional energy efficiency, especially when compared to units 10 years or older. They also feature many sizes, options and feature different warranty coverage. You should expect the lifespan of a furnace to be at least 15-20 years or longer if properly serviced and maintained.

A new furnace will provide

  • Regulated heating with less temperature fluctuation with consistent air flow
  • Cost benefits as new furnaces use less energy than older models
  • Longer lifespan because on/off cycling is minimized
  • Better humidity control and improved air quality with superior filtration systems compared to older furnaces
  • Reduced operating noise with advanced sound-absorption materials

Choose the Furnace for Needs and Budget

We will go through the advantages and disadvantages of various furnaces and explain the following:

  • The minimum AFUE in Canada is 90%. The higher the rating the more energy saved. We’ll discuss cost versus savings to help you determine the best choice
  • Warranty and extended warranties for both parts and labour
  • Required BTU needed for your home’s specifications
  • Programmable thermostats are a standard feature for high-efficiency furnaces allowing for temperature control of zones within your home. We will explain how settings can reduce energy consumption when not needed
  • Explain simple maintenance you can do to increase the lifespan of the furnace

Depending on the installation requirements, we always try and show you 3-4 different furnaces from affordable basic models to more expensive units with higher warranties and efficiencies.

For many people price will dictate the choice, however, a higher efficient furnace will help to pay for itself over time. We’ll try and help you understand what system works best for your needs and budget.

Choosing the best furnace for your home requires that the unit is sized accordingly to the heating requirements of your home. Buying an over-sized or under-sized furnace will cost more to operate, need to be maintained or serviced more frequently and shorten the lifespan of your furnace.

Understanding AFUE Efficiency Rating

The Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency or AFUE Rating measures the efficiency of furnace output.

The efficiency rating is a relatively easy formula to figure out and understand. If an older furnace (10 years or more) is rated at 70% Efficiency – it simply means 70% of the energy is being converted into heat while the remaining 30% is lost through the flue or exhausts.

In Canada, today’s furnaces have a minimum AFUE Rating of 90%. You can quickly understand the savings a new furnace offers compared to an older less efficient model. By upgrading to a new furnace, especially if yours is older than 15 years, you can significantly reduce your energy consumption which will help to offset the cost of a replacement.

Recommended Furnaces

We can install any model of furnace, however, we highly recommend Goodman furnaces. Goodman lives up to its name in a big way, with time-tested energy-efficient technology, highly-durable materials and excellent manufacturing.
